As the year starts to come to a close, you may feel like you’ve done all that you can in terms of job success and reaching your career goals, but that’s not true! 2016 may be coming to an end, but there’s still so much more you can do to boost your career before the year ends.

Even though the year is ending, you should never stop trying do things to improve yourself and your job prospects. There is always so much more to do – whether it’s expanding your network, improving your skills, or creating a career plan. These things can even carry on to the next year and prepare you for 2017 (and beyond!)

Need an idea on what to do? Here are 5 career boosting moves you still have time to make in 2016:

1. Update your digital profile.

Take a look at your digital profile. Chances are, it’s been awhile since you’ve updated it. Your digital profile is one of the most important things you’ll need when it comes to getting new job prospects or making yourself look more marketable to job recruiters.

So how can you use it to boost your career? Attend a career workshop at your local college or get it looked over by an industry professional. They’ll be able to give you professional help and critique on how to make it look even better to job recruiters. These professionals will be able to make your digital profile stand out amongst other candidates, so take advantage!

2. Create a career plan and goal sheet.

Career plans are crucial for motivational purposes. By setting a goal sheet, you can lay out all of your career plans and milestones. This will help you keep track of deadlines and opportunities. It will also help you understand what you need to accomplish and how to do so. Write down a list of potential employers, job opportunities, and things to learn. Map out the details and figure how and when you can there. Trust me, it’ll be worth it.

3. Take classes to learn more skills.

There are so many different classes you can take to boost your skills. For example, local community colleges are always offering programs to learn different types of technical skills, including – Photoshop, graphic design, coding, and etc. If you don’t have time to attend classes at a community college, check out some online courses – like the ones ProSky offers. These skills will be a great resume booster and will increase your chances of finding a great job so much more.

4. Continue to build and nurture your network!

It’s like the old saying goes, “it’s not what you know, it’s who you know.” You network is extremely important to helping you with your career goals. Why? They’re the ones who have the potential to introduce you to a cool new opportunity or the ones that can provide you with a good recommendation. Your friends and professional network will be the ones to open new doors to new opportunities. That’s why it’s important to maintain and build your network.

Building and nurturing your network doesn’t have to take long and requires little effort. Simply pick up a phone and call or send a quick text. Invite them to hangout or just chat for a few minutes. It’s easy and will take less than a few minutes of your time. Investing in your network is an investment that will pay off in the future.

5. Become an expert in your field.

Think you know everything there is to know about your field? Think again. There is so much more to learn. A good job candidate is always looking for new ways and things to learn. In order to stand out amongst other job candidates, you’ll need to become an expert in your field. You’ll need to know as much as you can about the field you’re going into in order to make an impression. By becoming an expert in your field, you’re paving the way for better job opportunities.

How can you become an expert before the year ends? It’s easy, but requires a lot of hard work. Go to the library and read books about the subject. Find a mentor that can help guide you and give advice. Go online and read blogs about whatever subject you’re working on. There are plenty of resources, you just have to know where to find them.

By following these simple steps, you’re guaranteed to boost your career in no time. You’ll be able to start off 2017 on a good note, but the learning doesn’t stop with 2016!
