Why Your Social Media Presence is Important to Your Success

The universe is currently in a Social Media frenzy! If you aren’t on social media, what exactly are you doing? The world of social media shows us time and time again how important it is to network and develop a presence. There are so many sites devoted to keeping you in the know and keeping the world knowing about you! These spaces were created for us to have a voice and if we don’t use them wisely, we will miss out on the next best thing. Networking is key in order to be present on social media. If no one knows who you are, who can you meet?

Twitter

Currently, my favorite social media channel is Twitter. Twitter creates a space for people to express their innermost thoughts while allowing other people to chime in. Twitter chats are my absolute favorite networking tool! Accounts will announce that they have a chat coming up and will discuss the topic at a certain time. At that time, users will be asked a specific question and it will all lead to a hashtag. I can’t tell you how many followers I’ve connected with through Twitter chats. I get to see their ideas, put a name to a face, and get a new perspective.

Stepping out of your comfort zone on Twitter is the best way to increase your online presence. I’m able to tweet hashtags and have conversations about my opinion. I love connecting with others like me in an online community. I’m currently a part of a Black Creatives group and many people are using its network to the fullest. Jobs are being posted, ideas are being shared, and most of all it puts together a sense of community that one would not have if they were just tweeting on their own. Joining Twitter communities make your voice stand out. People are listening to you and they care what you have to say! Branching out has been the key to my Twitter success.

Gaining new followers and just giving them a compliment on their work, can really go a long way. You can start a conversation with almost anyone and from their your network can begin. Twitter is a great way to expand your network and personal brand, so don’t miss out!

Instagram

Let the visuals arise! I love, love, love Instagram! A picture is worth a thousand words and if you use this site correctly, you are in for a huge surprise. Posting awesome content with hashtags can open up your network. Find your niche and stick with it. Many people fail to adequately network with others because they don’t know what they "really do". Once establishing your social identity, you will be able to flourish. Hashtag your interests, shout out your school, even hashtag cool communities to get involved in. From taking your own flat layers (stock photos) to posting interactive content, your followers will increase and so will your network.

Next time you want to post a boring picture, spice it up a little bit. Tag your location, ask a question to your followers in your caption and respond to your comments. The bloggers and influencers on Instagram that I enjoy the most are always creating conversation and responding to their followers. Who knows, your sundress from the little shop down the road can spark conversations from anywhere.

Facebook

Contrary to what most millennials might want us to believe, Facebook is still extremely important in terms of networking and communicating with others. I do most of my sharing on Facebook. I share my blogs, photos, and interesting topics (but make sure your profile picture and any other pictures are professional!). I am the person that shares 10-12 times daily. I want people to know what I’m interested in and what I stand for. Many conversations spark through Facebook comments and I sincerely enjoy the discussion. What’s better than bridging the gap between you and older generations!

Many of my friends on Facebook are my mentors, school mates and teachers. I love being able to share things across the board through all sets of my network. Facebook is the place to share concepts. With Facebook live (similar to periscope) I’m able to directly speak to and answer questions from my followers. Don’t think you can’t have an impact on Facebook? Many of your personal posts will be shared and you may make an impact on someone’s life. Join a Facebook group, share your story with the world and keep moving on up!

No matter what social network you decide to use, make sure that you are making an impact. Shape the world. branch out, and get your life started. Talk to someone new from a similar community. Share your ideas, build your community, and get your life! Start with taking an online social media marketing training course!
