How to Build Strong Partnerships with Employees

Can you identify the main factor that makes a modern leader different from the leader of the past? The ideal leader of the future is not seen just as someone who leads people towards a common goal. They are seen as a person who develops strong partnerships inside and outside the organization. 

The leader shares capital and ideas with people inside the organization. That’s not the only reason why they are building partnerships. They approach even the entry-level employees as alleys; not as subordinates. A leader collaborates with the workers on all projects, and they are always available to provide the needed support. That’s how they create happy instead of depressed workers

Where does writing come into this picture? Well; writing is a huge part of your communication. To build strong partnerships with your employees, you’ll write them emails, suggestions, support letters, and even blog articles. What exactly do you write to them? The following tips will help:


1. Common Courtesy Emails

You should practice common courtesy in person. When you’re walking down the hall and people greet you; you take a moment to look them in the eyes and respond. This doesn’t mean you should become a fake; we’re only looking for a simple exchange of a kind face and a nice word. 

If, however, you’re a leader of a big organization, you can’t meet all your employees in person. However, they still deserve your human approach. Whenever someone has a birthday, send them a kind email with warm wishes. Don’t send the same email to everyone! Find out what this person likes and personalize the message in a way that shows them you care. If someone loves reading, for example, you can get attach an eBook in the message. 

When someone loses a parent or another important person in their life, write them a message and give them few days off. Show you care for every single one of your employees. 

Your employees are much like roommates. You don’t want to be the guy who forgets people’s birthdays and manages to ruin everyone’s day with their grumpy attitude. Treat your employees like the friends you like. 


2. Effective Explanations

Whenever you’re explaining an important project or you’re delegating tasks to your employees, you mustn’t treat them as inferiors. Remember: you’re trying to build long-lasting partnerships with them. That’s why you’ll treat them as equals. You’ll explain the project and individual responsibilities in written, so everyone can access that information whenever they need it. 

Make these messages clear and straightforward. Invite your employees to ask questions and don’t be late with the responses. You may do this via email, but you can also use a specialized project management system


3. Social Media Posts

Okay; we’re not asking you to treat your employees as friends on social media. There are certainly some limits you should set. You should use social media for building effective partnerships with the workers, but you must proceed with caution.

The most effective way for a leader to benefit from these networks is to put all employees in a private Facebook group. There, you can all communicate in a safe and relaxed environment. It’s okay to write a joke now and then. Most of the time, you can post useful resources, greetings, and discussion prompts. You may transfer these connections to LinkedIn, too. 

Do not share anything confidential and don’t engage in inappropriate behavior on social media. You’re still the leader and you must act in accordance with your position.  


4. Blog Posts

You can post useful tips that help them deal with the daily stress they face. You can share productivity tips. You can get them engaged in productive discussions. The blog practically gives you limitless opportunities to explore.

The welcome message can be brief and simple. “Welcome to X (that’s where your company’s name goes). I wish you a pleasant stay. If there’s anything I can help you with, let me know.” You can expand the message by explaining how important this particular role is for the business, and how the entire team believes in the potential of this new member. 


6. Messages to Remote Employees 

You hired remote employees? That’s a great decision! In order to work successfully with remote employees, you have to build partnerships with them, too. That’s not easy to do. You don’t have them in the office, so you must try harder to convey your personality in writing. 

Start by sending them a welcome message and maintaining active communication. When they send a file, send them a response to say thanks. Tell them how they did. If the work needs improvements, make your requirements clear, but do it in an approachable way. You’re not punishing them for not meeting your expectations. Do it like you’re helping them to become better at what they do.
