In case you've been living under a rock and didn't know already, today March 8 is International Women's Day! You may or may not know that ProSky is lucky enough to have a woman co-founder and CEO, Crystal Huang.

While there is still a long way to go, we feel pretty lucky to be moving the needle at such a pivotal time in history.  We rounded up some amazing quotes and everything you need to know about what's happening in today's world celebration!

So, what is it?

It is a global celebration that honors women's achievements and commemorates the movement for women's rights. According to the United Nations' Website, Women's Day was created to "reflect on progress made, to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities,"

It has been observed since the early 1900's and is now recognized officially every year on March 8. One of the most notable first observances happened in 1909 in New York City during the Garment Worker's Strike, where women protested against working conditions.

The legacy has continued. In 2012, former US President Barack Obama proclaimed the month of March to be "Women's History Month".

Although it's not affiliated with any singular group it has inspired numerous movements,  groups, organizations, corporations and charities to come together in unity and celebration.

Google even dedicates a doodle each year to celebrate this amazing day. Check it out here, or type in google.com and see it live in action :)

Why do we still celebrate it?

Although the original intent was to obtain full gender equality for all women globally, this still has not been achieved. Unfortunately, according to The American Association of University Women, there is still a gender pay gap. While the holiday certainly highlights inequalities, it's important to note that it's about coming together globally, to celebrate achievements. Achievements of the amazing women who have broken glass ceilings and overcame so many barriers in the past.

What's the theme? How can I participate?

The campaign for 2017 is to #BeBoldForChange "Call on the masses or call on yourself to help forge a better working world --- a more gender inclusive world. How will you #BeBoldForChange ? Head to the IWD website and share your commitment! There are many participating in, "A Day Without A Woman" which is organized by the group who was behind the Women's March on Washington.
